Paul Reeve
My work explores the interconnected themes of life, death, and emotion. I am drawn to the ways in which these experiences mirror the systems and structures we encounter in nature and technology. My art reflects the relationships between seemingly disparate elements - organic and synthetic, functional and chaotic - a kind of symbiosis underlying all things.
I draw inspiration from systems theory i.e. "cohesive groups of interrelated, interdependent components that can be natural or artificial. Every system has causal boundaries, is influenced by its context, defined by its structure, function and role, and expressed through its relations with other systems."
My paintings are not representations of reality, but abstractions of systems - non-functional yet harmonious networks or the intertwined cycles of life and the engineered precision of technology. Each piece is a meditation on the complexity of connection, the fragility of balance, and the vitality of interdependence.
I use bold textures, layered forms, and fluid compositions, I try to evoke the chaos and order of the world around us. I see my work as an invitation to reflect on how the natural and artificial coalesce, how feelings and systems shape one another, and how these elements define the fabric of our existence.
